Brief reflections on five experiences

Hi everyone,
I hope you have been enjoying the holiday season. Although Tatiana, Gabriel, and I are far from our family and friends back home, we keep you in our thoughts and close to our hearts.
Welcome, Lindsey, to Unfragile Thyself. I’ve been on vacation the past week. I’ve been relaxing but busy, too, celebrating Christmas, accepting a new job, enrolling in a course, appreciating advice from P.T. Barnum, and wondering what are humans still good for – all highlighted below.
I’m glad you’re here.

Christmas in Q8 🎄
On Christmas eve, with wrapped gifts under the tree we prepared a shrimp in tamarind sauce dinner at home for the three of us. And then we video chatted with some family. (Challenging with the time difference.) It was a lovely night.
You can see Christmas trees shining in windows around our neighborhood.
New job 👔
At the end of this school year I will leave my Head of Design position at American International School Kuwait. Starting the 2019-20 school year, I will step into the Middle School Assistant Principal position. My friend, Bob, stepmother, Kathy, and the current admin team at AIS gave me invaluable insights to the challenges and rewards of the AP role. I am very grateful. Thank you! Tatiana and Gabo see this as a rare opportunity to upgrade my wardrobe with modern looks and formal attires. Can they pull that off? Stay tuned…
How do we create culture? 🤔
I’m enrolled and excited to learn in this online course, Creating Cultures of Thinking at Project Zero, Harvard Graduate School of Education.
No humbug 📖
I read Art of Money Getting Or, Golden Rules for Making Money - Kindle edition by P. T. (Phineas Taylor) Barnum the other day. What an enjoyable read. Barnum offers wise rules still relevant today.
Every man should make his son or daughter learn some useful trade or profession, so that in these days of changing fortunes of being rich to-day and poor tomorrow, they may have something tangible to fall back on. This provision might save many persons from misery, who by some unexpected turn of fortune have lost all their means.
And he adds entertaining anecdotes that give us a glimpse into life in the 19th century. You can read them for free on Kindle. You won’t be humbugged.
Automatable 🤖
With changing fortunes in mind, let’s contemplate Michael Osborne’s presentation on automation at work.

Curious about Kuwait? If so, let me know. I’ll look into it and report my findings here. Currently, I’m looking into the voices behind the call to prayer and how dates for holidays are determined.

Watch your bobber!

🛎️ Next on Unfragile Thyself, I discover how New Year’s Eve is celebrated in Kuwait. (Although, I’ll most likely be asleep when that happens.)
