Hi,
I hope all is well and your summer is hanging on.
This week I received Sashaโ€™s export permit, watched Samsara, pondered paper, packed the Pelican, and sold the Toyota.
Days to departure: 6

Pets need papers too ๐Ÿถ
Six years ago, we brought our dog, Sasha, with us from China to the USA. Due to language restrictions (me being an illiterate immigrant), I hired someone to take me around Beijing to get Sashaโ€™s paperwork in order. I simply followed our agent and signed the documents put in front of me. Sasha didnโ€™t have it so easy. She was examined, vaccinated, microchipped, crated, and loaded in a plane as cargo.
Sasha refuses to look at a camera.
Language is not usually a problem for me here in Austin, so I have been following the steps to get the USA export permit for Sasha myself. In Kuwait we hired PetsAway, a pet transportation service, to secure the import papers and clear Sasha from customs. Iโ€™m happy to say we now have both the export and import papers in hand and are ready to fly with KLM.
Cultures ๐Ÿ›ธ
When you begin to live in a culture other than your own, you see differences. In time, 10 years for me in Colombia (slow learner?), you see similarities. Samsara, a non-verbal documentary about the wonders of our world, can be interpreted in many ways. I am watching it now through a we-are-different-but-similar lens to help prepare myself for living in Kuwait which begins next week. Available on Prime Video.

I write in my journal (yes, on paper) in the mornings. Most people, I believe, donโ€™t tolerate me like my journal does.
Tips for vagabonders ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ
Get yourself a Pelican carry-on case. We used to carry our computers individually in our personal carry-on luggage, usually backpacks. Now we put all of our computers in one Pelican carry-on.
One PS4, two MacBook Pros, and one MacBook fit safely in this carry-on case.
Itโ€™s designed to withstand far more stress than I will ever put on it, but I now travel knowing all of our devices are in one carry-on and safe from drops and bumps. Plus, the Pelican makes a decent stool.

Car ๐Ÿš—
We sold our Toyota RAV4 this week! Our local Toyota dealership offered us $500 more than CarMax. And our property manager, Gus, beat the Toyota offer by $500 plus he let us keep the car until we head out of town in a rented Dodge Caravan 7-seater on Friday morning. Thank you, Gus!
