Brief reflections on five experiences

I hope you are doing well.
In this issue I explore my food rules, becoming a better version of myself, a cold shower at work, the influence of one word, and curiosity.
I’m glad you’re here.

Food Rules 🥗
When I signed off in the last issue, I mentioned that I would be getting measured for a suit at Prince Tailor for Gents. I didn’t go. Instead, I pulled two old suits out of the closet. The pants didn’t fit anymore. So I took them to a neighborhood tailor to stop them from falling to my ankles. He did a fine job. The pants fit well around my waist but still baggy around the legs. I’ve lost some weight in Kuwait; about 15 pounds. Tati says I look ill. But I feel great! So I’m going to continue to follow my 3 food rules.
• No gluten
• Avoid sweeteners, processed foods, and meats
• Make my own meals
My weight seems to be holding steady now which tells me two things – this is my natural weight and it’s time to get measured for a custom suit.
Becoming better 😍
My son, Gabriel, completed his Middle Years Program personal project recently. He has spent most of this school year exploring Stoic teachings to learn how to become a better version of himself.
Gabriel shares his project with two friends at the personal project showcase.

In addition to successfully completing this long-term project, he has pushed my thinking about becoming a better version of myself. Thank you, Gabo! His favorite quote,
Cold shower 🚿
A few weeks ago, our middle school principal was in the States recruiting teachers for next year and our middle school assistant principal was in Greece chaperoning our teams competing in a sports tournament. So I filled in as the acting assistant principal for three days. What a fantastic opportunity! It was a three-day cold shower. I knew there were things I didn’t see in my teaching role, but I didn’t realize there was so much I didn’t see. I walked away from those three days with a deeper appreciation for everyone who works in that office and more eager to start my full-time AP role in August!
One word 🧠
I’m sprinkling because on my sentences now. This is another idea that came to me while washing dishes, this time from The James Altucher Show.
James Altucher + Steve Cohen: One Word That Will Give You Influence Over People & Other Life Changing Hacks You Need to Try
So instead of saying, “You need to take the dog for a walk.” I’ll say, “You need to take the dog for a walk, because she needs some exercise.” Or, “We need to revisit this goal, because it might not align with our vision.” I’m exploring this to see how one word can influence people.
Curious character 🧐
I added to my reading, Surely You’re Joking, Mr. Feynman! (Adventures of a Curious Character). I wasn’t sure I would find the adventures of a Nobel Prize winning physicist interesting or comprehensible. This book, though, is an entertaining read that inspires me to be more curious. I believe that was one of my shortcomings when I was younger; not being curious. I’m striving to fix that now.

Curious about Kuwait? If so, let me know. I’ll look into it and report my findings here.
