Create the Future

I'm spending the weekend in Beijing at the Create the Future workshop. "This workshop is designed to open doors to new modes of teaching and learning and focus on the learner (teacher and student) as a communicator, collaborator and creator." While I'm arguing the value of globally collaborative projects Tati and Gabo have been at the Pearl Market shopping. So far, Tati has a new iPhone ($150) and Gabo a new PSP loaded with dozens of games ($50). We're heading home this afternoon.

Andy Gets Inked

For every country he works in Andy gets a tattoo. Over the past 10 years tattoos for Vietnam, Mongolia, USA, and Guam have been inked into his skin. On Saturday China joined them with a long, serpentine dragon wrapping around Andy's left shoulder and blazing down his chest. Dragons in China, by the way, are benevolent. Whereas dragons in Western cultures tend to be feared. Andy's dragon is the kind of dragon that when it comes out of its cave and flies above the village all of the children raise their hands and cheer.

Last Saturday Andy let me tag along as he got inked in Beijing at Mummy Tattoo. I took 435 photos during his seven-hour session. Eventually, I'll edit them down to about 35 photos and publish them in a book. The photos here will most likely make the cut and find themselves on a page.

A Short Eviction Story

Eminent domain and the fight for home, culture, community...it's a good read and the intentionally distorted face creates curiosity, makes me ask, "What's the story here?"
